Hi there!

Are you looking for a way to organize and govern your data? I’m Autumn, a Master’s student at Purdue’s Agricultural and Biological Engineering department. I got my Bachelor’s here in bioengineering (focus: cellular + molecular) back in 2019— now, I leverage the precision and advanced data technology found in “-omics” and biomed for agricultural applications. Today, I create data pipelines and architect back ends for decision support tools.

From Data Chaos to Informed Clarity

To support global health and food security means to support data technologies. In fields such as agriculture and biology, we’re collecting information faster than ever. Too often, this data ends up dumped into the sea of the world wide web or siloed off in isolated systems. With the rise of powerful AI, such as LLMs, accessing this data for insights, analysis, and communication has become more important than ever.

My passion is designing data structures and governance strategies. In academia, I create systems that are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR)— a set of principles that applies to academia, industry, and non-profit sectors alike.

The Toolkit

To do this, I employ a combination of traditional and cutting edge tools:

  1. Databases – Neo4j (graphs), MongoDB (documents), MySQL (relational).
  2. Natural Language Processing – Word2Vec (word embeddings), spaCy/Sci spaCy.
  3. Ontologies – Agronomy, Gene, Plant, and Food Ontologies.
  4. Semantic + conceptual modeling.
  5. UI/UX Qualitative Research Methodologies – i.e. Task Analysis, Affinity Diagramming..

Outside The Lab

Aside from my work and studies, I maintain multiple hobbies:

  • Painting.
  • Microscopy and cell staining.
  • Reading.
  • Training my rats.
  • Messing around with my Raspberry Pi and box of cheap sensors.
